An exhibition containing art works and stories about the harms of incarceration created by nine people with lived experience of incarceration.
Welcome to the Drawing Free virtual exhibition, it is for everyone, though particularly for those interested or involved in the criminal legal system, and/or arts-based research. By exploring this exhibition, you will learn about the artists and their experiences of incarceration. Their art works take us behind prison walls, revealing human rights abuses and failures of the Australian criminal legal system.
While this exhibition aims to inform and empower, some of the narratives and imagery deal with experiences of abuse. It is not the focus of the exhibition but several of the artists mention experiences of abuse in different periods of their lives, including abuse they experienced in prison. Be kind to yourself and explore the exhibition when you’re ready. If you think you might be triggered, then it may be better if you don’t enter the exhibition.
By entering the exhibition, you are responsible for any impacts. If the exhibition raises any issues for you, always remember support is available. For people in Australia, the number to Lifeline is 13 11 14, and Text: 0477131114. People in other countries are encouraged to access their local services for support.
